MLD FKT Quilt
The FKT Quilt is for fast moving hikers and trail runners that spend a minimum time in camp and need less sleep insulation in the top half of the sleep system because they will be wearing an insulated jacket or extra top layers while sleeping. Because they move fast by day they require little or no extra insulated leg clothing but do need that extra insulation on the lower body at night. This system approach saves pack weight and bulk and keeps the total system modular. The optional poncho head slot option adds more versatility and can be used as around camp or as an emergency torso layer or as the only insulation layer in warmer conditions.
FKT Quilt VS Spirit Quilt
The FKT Quilt is very similar to the time tested and well proven Apex Insulation MLD Spirit Quilt. Both use the same super high quality ClimaShield Apex. Both use the same MLD Endurance 10d RipStop shell and liner fabric. The FKT has 4oz sq/yd insulation in the lower half of the quilt and 2oz/sq/yd in the top half. The lower leg area closes with five snaps - no velcro. The Spirit Quilt has the same insulation thickness all over and the lower leg area closes with soft velcro omni tape and snaps. The FKT quilt is slightly narrower than the Spirit Quilt and comes in one temp rating.
FKT = Fastest Know Time
The term has been around for a long time and literally means the fastest time someone has completed any trail or section of a trail and is commonly subdivided divided into Supported and UnSupported categories. Today the idea has grown to include personal FKT's and includes the spirit and art of moving fast and light to achieve any personal speed/efficiency/experience goals on the trail.

ClimaShield APEX is the most thermally efficient synthetic quilt insulation avialable. It drapes, compresses and recovers extremely well and does not requiring through-stitching baffles to stabilize the insulation and that eliminates compressed sewn areas and prevents cold spots. Many other synthetic insulations require sewing of the insulation to the bag shell (you can see the many horizontal seams on the outside and/or inside of the shell) to prevent shifting or tearing.
MLD 2015 Mountain 10d X 10d 3xDWR The very best lightweight sleeping bag fabric available. It has a high thread count density for strength. See Fabrics Mojo Page. Our 3xDWR shell and lining fabrics are an important part of the thermal equation. The liner and shell are tuned for air permeability to limit condensation and slow heat transfer to boost the the overall warmth rating.
Many users of the FKT Quilt also use it over a 2-3 season mummy bag to extend their system to 3+ seasons. This system also helps keep a down inner bag dry. In below freezing temps insensible perspiration from your body or from wet clothing cools as it moves through the sleep system and doe of that condenses back to liquid water near the colder outer surface. By using a synthetic quilt over a down inner bag, more of that mnoisture is held in the faster drying synthetic layer so down bag stays dryer.
• Foot box and lower leg area is larger than many other lightweight quilts. Body mapped shape offers warmer torso area and less bunching at the neck.
