ULTRA FAST SET UP
SHEDS WIND FROM ALL DIRECTIONS
8.9' X 8.9' X 4.5'
SILNYLON 18oz Version - Yellow or Gray- $185
SPINNTEX EXP Version 14oz -Gray Only- $215
This is a low peak style Mid. Best for 3+ season use. Minimal features for simplicity. Minimal seams require minimal seam sealer for low final weight. Also great as a small packed size emergency shelter for day hikes.
• 60 sq/ft of usable floor space perfect for two or three.
• Main seams are triple rolled and stitched (MLD Exclusive) and flat felled.
• Interior Apex hang loop
• Apex reinforced with Dyneema X
• Mid height zipper door snaps allows it to be partially opened.
• Eight ground level perimeter tieouts with LineLocs for easy adjustment. LineLocs make cold weather and winter use (burried snow anchors) MUCH easier. Linelocks can be removed to save about one ounce.
• Hi Vis yellow guyline and seam sealer included
• 12" pole jack included. 1.4oz- Let\'s you use only one trek pole. You may be able to cut it to 6" depending on your trek pole length.
NOTES:
• ONLY zip the zipper up OR down when the bottom buckle is fastened to prevent stress on the zipper. Clean and Lube the Zipper as Needed.
• Most of the time you will pitch it a few inches off the ground for ventilation.
• Solo InnerNets and Duo InnerNets fit the Speed Mid.
• Front edge can be pitched higher than the back for more ventilation in warm weather - Use longer front corner guylines.
Spinntex EXP version is lighter weight but not quite as strong as the Silnylon version. Spinntex EXP users will want to be bit more careful in campsite selection in regards to possible small falling branches/cones and blown debris and protect from higher winds.
Speed Mid VS Super Mid or DuoMid
The SpeedMid fits a niche for quick trips for one or two, cost less and packs small. The shorter peak helps shed moderate wind without the need for side panel tieout points.
The SuperMid and DuoMid have more features - side panel tieouts and peak vents - and are much better for heavier snow loads. SuperMid and SpeedMid both have the same floor size but the steeper walls of the SuperMid yield about 15% more useable floor space. The SpeedMid is the same height as the DuoMid.
Compare the SpeedMid to some other 2 person single wall shelters in this price range and It Rocks as an economical entry UL shelter for 2+ lots of gear. Many users will like it's simplicity, lighter weight and pure lines more than the SuperMid. All said - it's still plenty strong and storm worthy but it should not be compared to the top of the line SuperMid or Duomid.
The SpeedMid is a solid 4+ out of 5 stars against the SuperMid in most areas; but 5 out of 5 against other 1lb fully side enclosed shelters that can fit 2+.
