FKT CUBEN eVENT SOUL BIVY

Winner: TGO Magazine - Highly Commended Award - Innovation Product Of The Year

The FKT Soul Bivy is a lighter weight version of the time tested MLD Soul Bivy. The FKT Soul Bivy is about 3oz lighter and maintains the same high performance eVENT technology of superior breathability. It is a bit less durable than the regular eVENT Soul Bivy.

FKT = Fastest Known Time is literally the fastest time hikers, bikers, runners and other endurance athletes have completed a certain trail or distance. The ethos behind FKT is self reliance and the FKT concept includes personal FKTs - Your Own Personal Goal. To achieve a personal FKT gear is trimmed to the minimum and knowledge and training become key factors. Movement is calculated to be as efficient as possible regardless of your overall speed or daily mileage. Whether you are racing, pushing your personal limits or just want to move through nature as efficiently and light as possible with ELI (Extremely Low Impact) the MLD FKT line is designed to help you achieve those personal goals.

This ultralight bivy is also perfect for climbers and off road bike racers that need small packed size and light weight.

Features

• Cuben eVENT fabric top and foot box. This is the lightest eVENT fabric available. This UltraLight 2 Layer style has a Cuben Fiber Dyneema matrix between the eVENT membrane and outer DWR 15d face fabric for strength. This light eVENT fabric offers the highest breathability of any weight comparable non eEVNT fabric. The 2Layer construction can increase the breathability in some conditions vs the 3layer eVENT. Other light "Waterproof Breathable" fabrics may be almost as light but none come close to the breathability. Those other semi-lightweight bivys are more of a short term tight fitting survival envelope that will leave you very wet from internal condensation. This Cuben eVENT is very expensive and our raw cost for a single yard of fabric is over $55! But it's amazing fabric.

• Very Waterproof 1.3oz/sq/yd Cuben Fiber bottom. Light and strong. It is non breathable and saves weight in the bivy. Most internally produced water vapor from sweat exhalation or wet clothing rises when heated by body heat to disperse through the highly breathable top eVENT layer.

• Full width zippered bug netting window. This feature is key for livability in a bivy.

• Mummy shaped with large volume head area to store extra gear.

• Packed size is about the size of a 1L Nalgene bottle.

• Footbox fits larger pads and big feet. MEDIUM Size for regular foam and 1" inflatable pads. Order size LARGE for tall users over 6' / 183cm or for wider or longer inflatable pads up to 2" thick.

• Foldable and removable wire hoop holds top fabric and bug netting off face a few inches for good air flow and lower condensation. 1.5oz / 45gm (not included in base weight) Most FKT users will remove this feature.

• Overhead hang loop at face for FKT use.

• Hang loops at all four corners.

• Left or Right Zip Options: Continuous #3 YKK Water Resistant zipper with two dual sided zipper pulls for vent positioning.

• Regular size fits up to a 6' / 183cm user in a Regular length bag, large feet with a 1"/ 2.5cm thick sleep pad inside.

• Requires user seam sealing - seam sealer supplied. Seam seal the outside seams and stitching with the supplied Seam Grip. Only a very small amount of sealer is needed. Let dry 24hrs. Stuffing the bivy full with blankets and pillows makes the process easy. Most just squeeze a small bead and use a finger to apply. User Tips & Reviews

FKT eVENT Soul Bivy VS Regular eVENT Soul Bivy
The FKT version has all the same features and measurements. The FKT version uses a lighter cuben fiber bottom (1oz/sq/yd vs 1.4oz sq/yd cuben) and a lighter eVENT upper ( 1.6oz sq/yd 2 layer vs 2.8oz sq/yd 3 layer eVENT) . The durability of the regular eVENT Soul Bivy a bit better than the lighter FKT bivy. Breathability and Functionality are the same.

•Review Link below is for the regular eVENT Soul Bivy (sister bivy to the FKT Soul Bivy) and has many good use notes and tips.

*Overall Rating: Highly Recommended*
"There's a lot to like about the Mountain Laurel Designs Soul Bivy: light weight, exceptional material quality (and the performance of those materials), solid construction quality, and a fundamentally sound feature set that makes it versatile enough to use as a standalone shelter while still being light enough to pair with a tarp for more versatility. Climbers, bikepackers, and packrafters will be particularly interested in the Soul Bivy because of its light weight, utility, and small packed size. "

Stand Alone WPB Bivy Sack User Tips:
1: Campsite location makes a difference! In bad weather, finding a semi protected area under a rock overhang, behind a natural windbreak, the base of a large conifer tree or cave can offers more livability.
2: Using a synthetic sleep quilt offers a measure of comfort, warmth and safety vs a down bag if you need to enter or exit in rain conditions or are forced to sleep in wet clothes.
3: Use of a pack liner keeps your gear dry in the pack and the backpack + other wet great can be stuffed into the liner for storage inside the bivy as a pillow if needed.
4: No WP bivy sack (and even non-waterproof highly breathable DWR bivys) are 100% condensation free in all conditions. This bivy is one of the best but taking common preventative measures to limit condensation is the key. Campsite selection, venting and managing wet gear and clothing are keys to lower condensation. In challenging conditions the overall goal is to be warm and being slightly damp and warm is far better than wet and cold or dry and cold.
5: If you expect lots of rain or very bad weather conditions consider using a small tarp or pyramid shelter + the FKT bivy for those challenging sleep periods.
